Dr. Deb Donig, PhD is a professor, a film and television consultant, a tech visionary, and the author of the forthcoming book At Metaphor’s Edge: Comparative Suffering in a Post-Holocaust Climate. The book traces how, in the wake of the Holocaust and its effect on a post-1945 discourse of human rights, groups seeking to bring visibility their own trauma are obliged to grapple with the Holocaust as a metric for what counts as legitimate suffering in the international arena.
Dr. Donig’s teaching and research spans a vast area of expertise, from the culture of technology and a new concept she has has pioneered, called “ethical technology,” to human rights, to memory studies.
She recently served as a consultant for the show Hunters, written by David Weil and produced by Jordan Peele and Monkeypaw Productions, which aired in February 2020 on Amazon Prime. Donig worked with writers and producers to ensure that the series maintained a standard of ethics in Holocaust representation and consulted on historical accuracy, on plot factuality, and on the show’s focus on Black/Jewish relations.
She is currently working on developing a new vision for ethical technology as a college curriculum.
